THIS IS ONLY APPLICABLE TO MOMENTO CLASSIC (i.e. v2.x)
Momento Classic uses the File Sharing capability available in iOS 4 to provide you with a backup which can be copied to your computer for safe keeping. As Momento Classic stores photos in its database, backup files can often be quite large. File Sharing allows for the quick and easy transfer of data between your device and your computer.
Backing up your data
Momento Classic Backups include all data associated with Momento Classic; ie. all your written moments, feed data, photos and account settings.
To backup your Momento Classic data, follow these simple steps:
1. Launch Momento Classic
2. Go to Settings > Data > Backup & Restore
3. Tap 'Create New Backup' to generate a backup file of your data. This may take some time depending upon how much data you have stored in Momento Classic.
4. Either transfer your backup to your computer using iTunes file sharing or send to another application (such as Dropbox or Evernote) to store your files in the cloud elsewhere. Instructions for this are below.
Transferring to your computer via iTunes File Sharing:
1. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes
2. Select your device from the sidebar (if enabled) or from the device icon in the navigation bar
3. Select 'Apps' from the sidebar or 'Apps' tab (as pictured above)
4. Scroll to the bottom of the 'Apps' tab to find the File Sharing browser (highlighted in red on image above)
5. Select 'Momento' from the 'Apps' list to view Momento Classic's documents
6. Drag the backup file from the Documents browser to your computer for safe keeping. Alternatively you can select the file from the list and click 'Save to...'.
7. Make sure the resulting file remains with the '.momento' file extension intact. Do not try to open this file. It can only be opened with Momento Classic.
Sending the backup file to another application:
1. After creating the backup file in Momento Classic, tap it
2. Select 'Send to...'
3. Select the application you wish to send the file to.
Do not attempt to modify the .momento file - this may result in a corrupt backup and loss of your data. We cannot recover any corrupt files, or assist if you have modified this file.
Important security note: Backup files are not encrypted, nor do they hold your lock code so it is important you keep this file safe and secure. For this reason, we recommend deleting the backup file from your device after transferring it to your computer.
Restoring your data
To restore your data from a backup file, your will need to transfer the file to your device using File Sharing. It is not possible to restore from a backup file stored in another application so you will need to transfer it to your computer first.
To restore your Momento data, follow these simple steps:
1. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes
2. Select your device from the sidebar (if enabled) or from the top right of the navigation bar and navigate to the 'Apps' tab
3. Scroll to the bottom of this window to find the File Sharing browser
4. Select 'Momento' from the 'Apps' list to view Momento's documents
5. Drag the Momento backup file from your computer to the 'Momento Documents' file browser. Alternatively you can click 'Add...' and select the file.
6. Launch Momento Classic
7. Go to Settings > Data > Backup & Restore
8. Under the 'Existing Backups' heading, tap the file you wish to restore from.
9. Choose 'Restore'
10. Once the restore has completed, restart Momento.
Please note: If you have a lock code set in Momento, this will not be affected by the restore.
As backup files are not encrypted we recommend deleting the file from your device after successfully restoring your data.
