You can export your data for use outside of Momento.
This is a Premium feature available to Momento Premium subscribers.
Please note: An export is not the same as a backup. You cannot restore your data from an export.
How do I export my Momento data?
In Momento, go to Settings > Data > Export.
Choose your export options (detailed below) and then tap 'Create Export' to create your first export. This will create a plain text export of all your Momento data along with a copy of associated media based upon your settings.
Filter
The filter allows you to filter the data included in the export based on three options:
- Tags
- People
- Places
Only one filter can be applied for each category.
To quickly reset the filter simply tap the 'Reset Filters' button. This will deselect all selected filters returning the export option to 'All Data'.
Date Range
This allows you to export data based on a specific period of time. There are three options:
- All Time
- Since Last Export
- Custom
Selecting 'Custom' will allow you to specific the exact date range.
File Options
These options provide you with the ability to choose how the resulting export files are exported. There are three options:
- One File Per Day
- One File Per Month
- One File
Include Media
If enabled this option will export any associated media alongside the plain text file in a separate folder. The plain text file will contain the filenames of the associated media.
Include Feed Data
If enabled this option will include feed entries as well as the moments you added manually.
How do I access my exported data?
After creating an export you can access the files using iTunes File Sharing or 'Share' the files to another app (such as 'Dropbox').
Sharing exports via the iOS Share Sheet
Simply tap on an export to display the standard iOS Share Sheet which will allow you to share the export to other supporting apps.
When sharing an export which contains multiple files it will compressed using the .tar format. If you want to use the export on your device we recommend ensuring the 'One File' option is selected in the 'File Options' and not to include any media. This will generate a single plain text (.txt) file.
Accessing exports via File Sharing
Copying an export file to your computer using iTunes File Sharing:
- Connect your device to your computer and launch iTunes.
- Select your device.
- Click Apps in the list on the left and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
- In this section, you'll see a list of file-sharing apps on your device. Select Momento.
- Drag and drop the 'Momento Export' folder from the Documents list to a folder or window on your computer to copy them to your computer.
Or, select the files you want to copy to your computer from the Documents list and click "Save to".
Find the folder on your computer to which you want to copy the files and click Choose.
Important note: Export files are not encrypted or considered secure. We strongly recommend storing them in a safe and secure place on your computer and removing them from your iPhone/iPad after they've been safely copied.
